The ’96 Chiefs took on their perpetual nemesis LJK GOLD early last week. The Goldies are ranked #9 currently and were coming off a 4-3 win over Cambridge where all four London goals were scored by ex-EMCers. Tensions would be high in this one.
The Goldies struck first with two goals in the first frame but Captain Brook Hiddink #8 kept us in it on a nifty rebounder, assisted by Sam Vokes #44 and Dylan Johnston #9. London scored a power play goal mid-game to pull 2 ahead but Vokes #44 countered with his own power play marker assisted by Johnston #9 and Hiddink #8. London scored twice more. The Chief power play struck the back of the net to close the game on a point shot by Cam Garrow #91, assisted by Hiddink #8 and Nick Phillips #10.
The final score was 5-3 for the Goldies. The Chiefs(ranked #44) played a terrific defensive game against a top ranked opponent. Their power play was productive and they kept penalties below 10 minutes. The game was far closer than what the score would indicate. Coleman McDonald #35 made 21 saves to keep the team in this one. The boys proved to the coaching staff that they could execute a game plan to perfection.
Final stats:
Hiddink 1G 2A
