vs Sun County Panthers
The ’96 Chiefs stole 3 out of 4 points from the opposition this weekend. The first game was against the reigning 2011 Waterloo Golden Puck Champions, the Sun County Panthers. The Panthers were coming off an upset win over the LJK Gold to win the tourney.
The visiting Panthers got on the scoreboard first but the Chiefs tied it up 2 minutes later on a goal by Austin Malchesky #66. Brook Hiddink #8 and Brent Hammett earned the helpers. The next two periods saw lots of neutral zone play as the game finished a draw 1-1. The Chiefs outshot the #9 Provincially ranked Panthers 35-25.
@ Huron Perth Lakers
The ’96 Chiefs travelled to Stratford on Sunday to take on the East Division leaders. The Lakers are the only Alliance team to defeat the LJK Gold in regular season play. Huron Perth is ranked #24 currently and have allowed the fewest goals against in the Eastern Division. The Chiefs played hard for two scoreless periods. In the dying minutes of the 3
rd period, Sam Vokes #44 scored unassisted from a sharp angle to win the game. Goaltender Coleman McDonald #35 stood tall in net, turning aside every shot to earn the shutout and keep the Lakers off the scoreboard. McDonald is currently tied for 1
st overall in league shutouts with 5. The win moves the Chiefs into a tie for 3
rd place with the Lambton Sting.
