On Saturday, the Chiefs hosted the #8 ranked Sun County Panthers. The Chiefs battled hard the first two periods to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Despite being outshot in the first two frames, Goaltender Coleman McDonald #35 shut the door on the charging Panthers. The Chiefs first goal was scored by Sam Vokes #44 on the power play, assisted by Brook Hiddink #8 and Keaton McIntyre #13. The second goal was scored even-strength by Captain Brook Hiddink #8, assisted by Vokes #44 and Dylan Johnston #9.
At the start of the third period, the Sun County coach was tossed but that did not slow down the Panther’s offence as they scored a quick goal 16 seconds into the period. For the rest of the period, the Chiefs were on their heels with 3 consecutive penalties to kill off and the play mostly in our end. The Panthers scored midway thru the period to tie the game 2-2. Goaltender McDonald made a total of 36 saves to earn the single point. The Chiefs are currently in 3rd place in the Western Division, 5 points ahead of the Lambton Sting who have three games in hand(but play the Goldies 3 more times)
