Chiefs earn 2 of 4 points on weekend road trip
Having to travel West to Windsor on Saturday and then back East to Waterloo on Sunday morning was going to be a tough task for the boys (and families).  Everyone knows Waterloo is a big strong team, but Windsor almost surprised us on Saturday.

Having beaten Windsor 6-0 just 1 week earlier, it was reasonable to expect a little letdown from our boys.  Windsor proved that despite their record they are a hard working bunch who will not quit and it took everything the Chiefs had to leave town with 2 points.  Although the final was 5-2, this game was closely contested until the last few minutes as the Chiefs scored 3 late goals, including an empty-netter, to seal the victory.  With the teams trading chances throughout the third period, and close calls both ways, it was T. Fallowfield who scored the winner on a simple wrist shot from the right point.  As hockey goes, it was ironic that, after all the great chances, it was this excuse-me shot that found the back of the net on the screened Windsor goalie.  20 seconds after this goal, C. Abbott banged one home from in tight.  The Spits pulled their goalie, but R. Coome managed to wiggle one down the ice, just far enough to cross the goal line.

An 11:30 start in Waterloo meant the the boys had no time to rest before taking to the ice again, this time against one of the top-ranked teams in Ontario.

It was not a pretty start as the Wolves scored just 2 minutes into the game.  The Chiefs managed to hold their own after this early goal, but the Wolves stretched the lead to 2 with a late one as the first period ended 2-0 Waterloo.

The score remained 2-0 through 2. Some excellent goaltending by both keepers kept it this way until Waterloo went up by 3 on a rebound goal early in the third.  A casual rush by Chief defenseman C. Schyvennars with the Chiefs on a 5-2 advantage gave the boys some life as the Waterloo goalie was fooled by the long wrist shot.  Although the Chiefs continued to apply pressure and work hard for scoring chances, they were unable to score again on the Waterloo team until there were only 4 seconds remaining.

Considering the circumstances, this was a pretty decent effort for the boys and something they can build on as they prepare for their next tournament in 2 weeks' time.
