The Chiefs started their playoff round with the Lambton Jr. Sting Tuesday night with a 4-3 victory in a hard fought, fast paced game in Komoka.
The first period saw lots of back and forth play but no scoring.
The Chiefs started the second period with a goal. This was followed by a string of penalties to both teams. Undaunted, the Chiefs scored a second goal playing 4 on 4. The third goal by the Chiefs came on a 4 on 3 power play. However, the Sting would not allow the Chiefs to end the period unscathed. With only 13.5 seconds left on the clock, the Sting scored on a break away. The period ended 3-1 for the Chiefs.
In the third period, it was the Sting who opened the scoring, tightening the score to 3-2. The Chiefs answered back with a goal, making it 4-2. The Sting would not give up. They made good use of a power play to score and narrow the lead back to one goal for the chiefs with only five minutes left to play.
The last few minutes of the game saw the Chiefs working hard to stave off the Sting. With only 2:39 left on the clock, a 4 minute penalty was called against the Chiefs, leaving them short-handed for the remainder of the game. Through grit, determination, and hard work, even short-handed the Chiefs refused to yield. The Chiefs goalie shut the door on the Sting. This one ended 4-3 for the Chiefs.
Next game is in Sarnia on Thursday night. This one should be well worth the drive folks.
