Chiefs Can't Catch the Panthers....Yet
The Chiefs have had a busy schedule since their tournament in Hamilton, with a record of 4 wins (vs Chatham-Kent, Kitchener, Lambton, and Brantford) and 1 loss. Their only loss in their last five games was to the Sun County Panthers.
The Chiefs once again met up with the Panthers on December 23rd. The Panthers, looking confident from their previous win against the Chiefs, scored a short-handed goal and a power play goal in the first period of the game. Their second goal came amidst shouts from the crowd that the net was off but to no avail as the goal was still counted.
The Chiefs answered back in the second period with a short-handed goal and a power play goal of their own to tie the game 2-2. Just about 90 seconds into the third period, the Chiefs rolled on to get the first even strength goal of the game and to take the lead 3-2. The two teams battled back and forth until around the mid point of the period when Sun County evened it up. The Chiefs immediately answered with a goal of their own about a minute later. The score was now 4-3 for the Chiefs. Unfortunately, that ended the scoring for the Chiefs. Sun County came back to score a few minutes later, tying the game. With less than three minutes left to play, they got the go-ahead goal and then scored another in an empty net to win 6-4.
The Chiefs get a well-deserved break over the Christmas holidays and will be back to play their remaining four games of the regular season in the new year. Next up with be Chatham-Kent in a home game on January 3rd. Then the Chiefs will be away at Silverstick January 12-15th.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
