Chiefs Lose Close Game After 5 Game Unbeaten Streak
The Chiefs were away in Chicago at the Bauer Invitational the first week in November. Sorry readers, but "what happens in Chicago stays in Chicago". I can only tell you that the team came back from the experience to produce a 5 game unbeaten streak. It started in Waterloo where the Chiefs kept the Wolves caged and tamed them with a 3-1 win.
The next day they played Kitchener to a 1-1 tie. Next up for the Chiefs were the Brantford 99ers who succumbed to them 4-2. This past weekend the Chiefs traveled north to St. Marys where they calmed the Huron Perth Lakers waters with a 3-0 win. The Lakers had several close chances early in the game with strong for-checking and hit two cross bars but our goal tender shut the door and the Chiefs held them off. The tide changed in the second with more even play and in the third were able to capitalize on their chances to score two goals and then a third into an empty net. The game against Windsor was a battle to a 2-1 win despite many chances. The Windsor goalie kept his team in the game but the Chiefs limited Windsor's scoring chances, getting them the win.
Tonight the Chiefs were in London to play the Junior Knights. The Chiefs started the game strong with a number of scoring chances that were denied by the Kinghts goalie. The second period saw the Chiefs back on their heels with the Knights pressuring the Chiefs back into their own end. The Chiefs were able to stave off a 5-3 Knights power play but eventually the Knights' hard skating and for-checking paid off for them as they got two goals. The Knights managed to get a third goal in the third period but the Chiefs battled on and managed to get two goals within the last 5 minutes of the game. The second goal was scored with the goalie pulled and an extra attacker. The goalie was pulled again after the face-off and the Chiefs nearly scored but were unable to get the equalizer before the buzzer sounded. Despite being down 3-0 going into the third, the Chiefs never let up, kept shooting the puck, and made it a one-goal game.
