Game 2 - Chiefs 3, Sting 2
The middle game of 3 in a row, and the first of back-to-back against the Sting proved to be a tough challenge for the Chiefs.

But first, a note from our editor:

Apologies for the poor grammar in yesterday's article.  Due to budget constraints, we had to do away with the proof reader that had been used in the past.  That, in conjunction with the fact that our lead writer is not yet in mid-season form, combined to deliver the garbage you read last night.  Please accept our apologies, but, in reality, it could get worse.  Read on at your own discretion.

The Chiefs never trailed in the game today, but the final result was always in question as these 2 foes battled the entire 40 minutes.

As was the case yesterday, there was no scoring in the first as the teams did a little "feeling each other out".  There were a few shots for each team, but I do not recall many scoring opportunities. Also, like yesterday, Curtis A. opened the scoring for the Chiefs.  The goal came midway through the period as he found a little open ice in front of the Lambton net and buried it stick side on the Sting goalie.  The rest of the period remained fairly equal as both teams took turns applying some pressure on the opponent.

The third period began and the DJ was heard in the time keeper's booth stating the following:

"We need another goal here.  Hate to let them hang around"

He had barely finished stating this and the Sting had tied it up after a bit of a scramble in the Chief end. (The Dj was quickly removed from the building)

Now 1-1, the Chiefs needed a spark.  Today, the spark came from Max R. who found a rebound in front of the Sting keeper and quickly deposited it in the back of the net.  The lead had been restored and there were about 6 minutes remaining.

Unfortunately, the Sting kept pressing and took advantage of a bad clearing attempt in the Chief zone to tie it up.  At this point it appeared that a tie was in order, but a rather bad penalty against one of the Sting "enforcers" with about 3 minutes remaining has given the CHiefs one more powerplay opportunity. After winning the draw in the offensive zone, the Chief players moved the puck around and Riley C. found Matthew P. (who had a great game, btw) along the half boards for the one-timer.  Although a poor angle, Matt got a lot of composite on the shot (that does not sound nearly as good as a lot of wood) and it apparently hit the stick of Shane B. in front of the net and went directly into the Sting goal.  I say apparently because the ref gave the goal to Matt, but I have since heard otherwise.  Regardless, we don't care about stats.  Bottom line is the CHiefs now had a 1-goal lead with just over a minute to play.

The last minute was uneventful and the CHiefs hung on for the tough 3-2 victory.

Tomorrow, the rivalry will continue as we travel to Sarnia to do it all over again.
