Successful Weekend in Hamilton for the Chiefs
The Chiefs travelled to Hamilton this past weekend hoping to defend their title as winners of the Hamilton Bulldog Tournament last year.

First up Friday morning were the Nipissing District Lucky 13 Trappers.  The Trappers were worthy opponents in a hard-played close game.  The first goal of the game did not come until the end of the second period, scored by the Chiefs.  The Chiefs then exploded in the third period to score four more goals on the not-so-lucky Trappers, finishing them off 5-0.

The Ottawa Sting held the next game to a tight 1-1 tie.  The Chiefs took a while to get on track in this game.  The Sting scored first and the Chiefs had to work hard to tie it up.

Saturday's first game saw what was described as tough refereeing throughout.  The West Seneca Wings scored the first two goals of the game.  They scored another in the third period.  The Chiefs pressed on throughout the period and got to within one.  The Chiefs' third goal was disallowed.  Although the Chiefs continued to work hard right up until the end, they could not get the tying goal and this one ended in a 3-2 loss.

Despite being down to two lines in the game against the Huron Perth Lakers in a late game Saturday night, the Chiefs played a great game.  As usual, Huron Perth played the Chiefs hard and made it a close battle with hard checking.  There was no scoring in the first period.  The Chiefs managed to score one in the second and another in the third to win the game 2-0.

The Chiefs ended up 4th overall in the tournament, which according to the rules allowed them to advance to the semi-finals.  Players and parents waited at the arena to see the Chiefs posted to play Sunday morning.  However, in a controversial re-interpretation of the rule, the Chiefs were notified in the wee hours of the morning that they would have Sunday off and not advance after all.

Overall, the Chiefs had a successful tournament with well-played games.
