Chiefs Rally in the Third
The Chiefs took on Cambridge at the classic Galt Arena this afternoon. They broke out strong and got the first scoring opportunity but then the Hawks got possession. They managed to hold the puck in the Chiefs end and score only 90 seconds into the game. The Hawks swooped in for a second goal as the buzzer sounded (some say after the buzzer) ending the first period.
The Hawks again scored early, about a minute and a half into the second period. The Chiefs were suddenly down 3-0 and the crowd was getting antsy. Down but not out, the Chiefs rallied and in a defensive rush, deking around a couple of Hawks, a shot was backhanded into the top corner of the Hawks net.
This time it was the Chiefs turn to open the period with a goal. The Chiefs scored a power play goal early into the third period. They tied it up with a backhand from the slot with about nine minutes left in the game. Before the period was over, a hard shot mishandled by the Hawks goalie resulted in a loose puck that was tapped in by the Chiefs to take the lead.
The Chiefs held on for a spectacular comeback to win the game 4-3.
