Elgin Middlesex Canucks Tryout Information 2023-24 for U10 to U16 (UPDATED MARCH 7, 2023):


Elgin Middlesex Canucks are conducting tryouts starting on Monday, April 24 – Sunday April 30, 2023 for all age groups from U10-U16. Optional "ID Skate" for U18 players, will take place at a later date.

Additional information for U10 (2014) Players

After careful consideration, the U10 coaching staff will not be adding underage players to their final rosters.

If underage players would like to attend prep skates and tryouts they are welcome to do so, but they will not have the opportunity to be rostered to the U10 team for the upcoming 2023/2024 season.

The early bird tryout fee for the 2023 Season is $150 ($175 after April 1) for all Elgin Middlesex Canucks AAA zone players which includes players who live in the following OMHA boundaries:

•         Strathroy Minor Hockey

•         Mount Brydges Minor Hockey

•         Lambeth Minor Hockey

•         Aylmer Minor Hockey

•         St Thomas Minor Hockey

•         Port Stanley Minor Hockey

•         Belmont Minor Hockey

•         Dorchester Minor Hockey

•         West Lorne Minor Hockey

•         Lucan Minor Hockey

•         Ilderton Minor Hockey

•         North Middlesex Minor Hockey

•         (Valid release from prior year/F1 Players who played for the Canucks last season)

 

Payment & Fees

Optional Prep Skates - $125

 

April 17-21 – times will vary by age group, please check the schedule

Each player will receive 3 ice sessions with AAA coaches/development specialists and a Canucks Prep Skate jersey (these skates are optional and can be attended even if your player is not trying out for a Canucks team)

***If your player is participating in playoffs/playdowns or league/OHF Championships, they are not permitted to attend prep skates as per OHF (Ontario Hockey Federation)***


Tryouts = $150 (Early bird rate)

April 24-30 - times will vary by age group, please check the schedule. To qualify for the early-bird rate, we must have received your online registration form prior to April 1, 2023. You may opt to pay via etransfer at any time or pay via credit/debit at any of the in-person registration sessions. The fee increases to $175 for payments/registrations dated after April 1, 2023

Checking Clinic = $20 

April 22 - Details listed below. There is a section on our registration form that must be selected to register for the checking clinic. A checking clinic must be completed prior to tryouts for this age group. Your player may take a clinic elsewhere and provide proof of completion OR participate in our EMC Checking Clinic on April 22. 

 

 Players may attend prep skates only – please note this in the etransfer message along with DOB and Players Name

· Players attending prep skates ($125) and tryouts ($150) – please combine totals for etransfer purposes

*if your U14 player is participating in our checking clinic, add an additional $20*

In addition to the above noted fees, the following steps are required in order for your registration to be considered complete:

Step 1: To expedite the process, players should pre-register for tryouts prior to April 24th by using the following Registration Link (online registration received after April 1st will be subject to fee increase please see above):

**Please note** For those trying out for U14 – players must show proof of checking clinic completion prior to stepping on our ice – no exceptions.

 

Step 2: Provide an OMHA Permission to Skate form (PTS) from your home association We cannot accept the Alliance Permission to Skate forms. Players must obtain an OMHA Permission to Skate form from their home centre. This is mandatory for all players. You are not able to attend tryouts without this document. These forms are being distributed by your home centre at the end of March/beginning of April.

 

Step 3: Provide us with a photocopy of a birth certificate of your player or other document that confirms proof of age. 

 

Step 4: Provide us with proof that one parent has completed Respect in Sport (RIS). If you cannot locate your RIS number you can find your number by clicking this link

 

Complete the process by attending ONE of the In-Person registration nights listed below

 

In-Person Registration Dates  

***Due to the timing of Permission to Skate forms being released from OMHA, we have postponed in-person registration sessions. The new dates for in-person are as follows:***

Submit your documents in-person at the Komoka arena on

April 3 - 5-6pm (please note only 1hr on this date)
April 6 – 5-7pm
April 11 – 5-7pm
April 13 – 5-7pm

Please note, we will schedule additional document submission nights as needed to ensure everyone has submitted their necessary documentation. We will reach out to you via email if we are missing information. Please ensure your email address is correctly entered into the online registration form.


 
**IMPORTANT** The deadline to fill out the online registration form is April 22nd, 2023. After this date you will have to register the day of tryouts in-person.  The late registration fee for tryouts is $175 – Any registrations collected after April 1st is considered late. Due to timelines, we cannot accommodate late registrations for the prep phase skates**



Checking Clinic – U14 (2010)

All players trying out for U14 (Minor Bantam) are required to provide proof that they have successfully completed an ALLIANCE recognized Body Checking Clinic. EMC will be hosting two on-ice sessions on April 22, 2023 between 10am – 12pm. 

In order to register for our tryouts, proof that your player has completed a checking clinic must be submitted prior to your player going on-ice for tryouts (this can be a clinic taken anywhere, as long as proof of completion is provided)

Only virtual instructional sessions will be offered for the classroom portion, and players MUST complete the instructional session before moving on to one of the on-ice sessions. Players registered for our clinics will be provided with further details for the online portion and confirmation of their on-ice clinic time closer to the date.

On-ice numbers will be limited, and players will be assigned one of the two time slots (10-11am or 11-12pm). Clinics will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.

Cost: Registration for the clinic is $20 and is only open to those players from our participating OMHA feeder centres listed above.
