ELGIN MIDDLESEX CHIEFS SUMMER HOCKEY SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
EMC is proud to announce our summer hockey skills development program.  Available to Chiefs players rostered for the 2019/2020 season, this program will provide players with the opportunity to skate and improve their skills twice per week throughout the summer.

A quality, professional program has been developed and will be delivered by instructors Jason Williams, Dave Warren and Johnny Warren.  The first 5-week session is set to begin the week of June 29, and the second will follow beginning the week of August 3rd.

ON-ICE SESSIONSDue to COVID-19 the OHF’s Return to Hockey Framework, in accordance with Public Health Ontario, has limited each on-ice session to only 9 skaters and 1 instructor.  Unfortunately there can be no spectators

In addition, at this point, our instructors are restricted to teaching primarily individual skills development – all done with proper on-ice physical distancing.

Skills Instruction and Program Content

Our sessions will be age/ability appropriate and will emphasize work ethic, pace and tempo.    They will include:

·      Skating skills emphasizing edge control, power, quickness, balance and agility.

·      Stick skills including passing/receiving, puck handling and shooting.

·      Many of these skills will be taught in drills that emulate ‘game like’ situations.

·      each 45 minute session will also include a fun skills game or competition.

Goaltenders – our EMC goalie coach mentor Jason Van Spronsen of Future Pro will conduct our goalie only instructional sessions once weekly.  Each goalie will also be invited to attend one of the regular scheduled weekly ice sessions with his or her age group.

VIDEO COMPONENT - Each week, video link(s) will be sent to each player.   These videos will emphasize the skills being taught that week or they may be of an informative or inspirational nature.

OFF-ICE STRENGTH and CONDITIONING: For optional off-ice hockey training, please refer to the links on our EMC website.   Brent McKenzie of Precision Fitness and Performance has designed some video training sessions specifically for our EMC players.

SAFETY PROCEDURES: Following the guidelines laid out in the OHF Return to Play Framework and working in conjunction with our home rink, the Komoka Health and Wellness Centre, we have done our utmost to decrease risk and ensure the health and safety of our players and their families is a priority  Although some of the precautions and rules we all have to follow to make this summer skills program work may seem like a hassle and at times complicated, it will be worth it to get our Chief players back on the ice and playing hockey.  We on the EMC board are excited and happy to provide this opportunity.
